The two main goals of the 2019 expedition to Kolguev have both been reached. Of the 76 long-tailed ducks that were fitted with geolocatiors on Kolguev in 2017 and 2018, no less than 44 were retrappen in August 2019. De Goose Specialist Group houdt haar 19e congres in Leeuwarden, in de provincie Friesland, van 28-31 Januari 2020. Nederland is een van belangrijkste landen voor ganzen in Europa. En circa 40% van alle in Nederland overwinterende ganzen zijn in Friesland te vinden. Het congres is biedt een gevarieerd programma met lezingen van ganzenonderzoekers uit Europa, Azië en Noord Amerika.

Until 2013 many have wondered what the origin is of the ever increasing numbers of moulting ruddy shelducks on the Eemmeer in the Netherlands. During recent years up to 800 birds were present. Other areas (IJsselmonding and Lauwersmeer) have also seen increasing numbers of moulting ruddy shelducks. The origin of these birds is unknown. Since December 2005 a new ringing programme of Bewick’s Swans runs in the Netherlands. Part of the birds is equipped with yellow collars with built-in GPS loggers (see picture).
